Sometimes I forget that the things that I understand and see, not everyone understands and sees.
2Corinthians 4:4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
John 12:34-43 The crowd spoke up, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ will remain forever, so how can you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this ‘Son of Man’?” Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going. Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.
Even after Jesus had done all these miraculous signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him. This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: “Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere: “He has blinded their eyes and deadened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes,
nor understand with their hearts, nor turn—and I would heal them.” Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him.
Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved praise from men more than praise from God.
Now you may ask, why has “God blinded their eyes and deadened their hearts.” Because coming to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior takes someone who is not just lonely and therefore to get rid of this loneliness, goes to believe for the moment.
Coming to Christ and having “newness in life is a matter of pursuing after Him. Pursing after righteousness. Dying to self, repenting and allowing Jesus Christ to now come and be Lord of your life.
Salvation is not just going to fall on you by accident. You have to come to the end of yourself and realize that what you need is Jesus. So you pursue Him. You seek after Him.
Colossians 1:10-14 “And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Look at those words that describe us as Christians: live a life worthy, may please him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work, growing in knowledge of God, have great endurance and patience, joyfully giving thanks.
All of these words and phrases are actions words that take effort, pursuit, desire, willingness on our part, hunger and a thirst after righteousness.
Most of the people around us that we see on the news, or work with, have never done this - Why? Because they have not come to the place where there eyes have been opened. Not necessary because of us, but because of them.
Romans 1:20 “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”
We are to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. But mostly that comes through loving them enough to love them, talk to them, share our experience of having a relationship with Jesus Christ and whats that all about.
So don’t be surprised when those around you who do not know Jesus Christ and the gospel the way we have been taught, don’t see it, or understand it. Remember neither did you at one time. But Praise Him that you do see and pray for them that they will.
